Sick of being SICK!

Our family has had a rough year so far for sickness. For a couple of years now I have wanted to keep a "sick" calender and keep track of all the times my kids get sick because I swear my kids get sick a lot more than the average kid. So this year I have been keeping track, and no joke.....someone has been sick every week since the beginning of the year (actually before then, Madison and Ryland were sick right before Christmas). We have gotten the flu, some of us twice- we do have our H1N1 shots and Skyler got the reg. flu shot and still got it. Skyler has had a double ear infection, the kids have had Bronchitis.....and of course the nasty coughs my kids get which makes them throw up and get really weak and sick and have to be on the breathing machine...which happens very frequently. It was my turn to get really sick last week when I had had a bad cough for a week already and then all the sudden I got a high fever and it hurt when I breathed...it felt like I had bruised my ribs from coughing(is that even possible?) We finally all got to go to church this last Sunday after missing the last 3 Sundays in a row. This week....well it was Jakes turn to start not feeling well, and though my cough still lingers on at least I can get off the couch! So I am hoping that maybe after this week we can all be healthy again? I dunno that might be too much to hope for with our track record.

Lets just say its been frustrating to say the least. I keep asking myself what I am doing wrong. I know we could do better at washing our hands before we eat and have Skyler especially wash her hands when she gets home from school-- cause I know she brings home a lot of it. Other than that I guess we just deal with it til this cold/flu season ends!

We had such a fun Thanksgiving this year. My parents were able to come and spend a week with us, which was so fun. The kids loved having them here! Thank you Mom and Dad for coming..it meant so much to us!

Thanksginings over...here comes Christmas! Unfortanately unlike when I was a kid in Oregon where you could go to a tree farm and cut your own tree down....we had to settle buying one at Home Depot. Ohhh well it works. Although, it was pretty for about a week...and then it started drying up and dying. I guess we Arizonians don't know how to keep trees alive...better stick with a cactus next year!

We went to the Temple lights one night...so pretty!

Yeah...so we couldn't let my Dad have too much of a break from work...so we put him to work helping us put tile in our upstairs hall bathroom (the kids bathroom). Jake and I had tiled the countertop earlier...and had been putting off tiling the floor til we could get an expert to help :)

Alright, so I think I say this everytime I post something, but I have really been slackin on posting any pictures. But I really wanted to put a few from Skyler's b-day which was at the end of October (yeah forever ago!)

I surprised Skyler and took her to Disneyland for her 6th b-day! It was so fun. Just me and her went while Grandma and Aunt Jamie watched Madi and Ryland. We were there all day long from opeing to close and had a blast!

What a fun time at Disneyland...now we will just have to make

it back someday with the whole family!

Mesa Verde National Park

Wow what an amazing adventure! We just got back from going to Mesa Verde National Park which is located in Colorado, where we spent 3 days camping and site seeing. This National Park is home to the thousand year old Pueblo cliff dwellings which are so amazing to see.

We went with Jakes sister Jamie and her fam. Thanks for letting us tag along with you guys! We had so much fun....we might just have to join you every year on your National Park tradition!

If you look closely in this picture you can see the houses in between the rocks... pretty crazy!

We saw deer everywhere around the campground. We even woke up one morning and there were two deer in our campsite! So fun to see!

There was such amazing views everywhere you looked. The fall colors were so beautiful.....it was so fun to see since we don't get any of that here in Arizona.

We had a sweet campsite! We ended being able to stay in a group site...with no one around and our own bathrooms, so we had lots of space where we could fit both tents and a fun area for the kids to play in.

We lucked out on the weather. During the day it was mid to high 70's and the lows were in the 40's which was pretty cold but as you can see by the kids snow hats we were prepared! If we had gotten there any later in the week I don't think we would have stayed and camped...the weather was suppose to get pretty bad. The day that we were leaving it decided to down pour at 3:30 in the morning (including hail, luckily we had a well made tent!) But the next day, the temperature was suppose to drop to a high in the 50's and lows in the 30's and possible snow showers...so we were definitely lucky to say the least!

Alright...so I'm slackin' a little bit cause Jakes b-day was on the 16th. But here are some pictures of his birthday. We went Bowling on saturday (since his b-day was on a sunday) which was a lot of fun and then we went and tried out Joe's Farm Grill (Jake said we need to take Dave and Jamie here when you come:) ) which was really good and was even featured on diners, drive-ins, and dives (which we love to watch). And then Sunday I made cinnamon rolls for breakfast and we went to church and did cake and ice cream and presents that night.

Jake has commented before (jokingly of-course) that I have sewn something for everyone except him. So for his b-day I decided to make him a blanket. It has fleece Padre print on side (his favorite team) and then different quilt squares on the other.

Jake had watched the P90x workout info-commercials several times and kinda hinted that he would like to try it out. He has been doing it faithfully (even on saturdays) for the last week and a half since he got them for his b-day. I really enjoy doing some of them too! We even do them together at night sometimes. They are definitely hard and make you very sore the next day, but it also makes it a fun way to work out!

Kindergaten here we come!

Today was Skylers first day of kindergarten! I can't believe that it is already that time! She was so excited today, so that made it a little bit easier to send her off. Everyone we have talked to has said how wonderful her teacher Mrs. Washington is, so I know she will have a fun year. It will definitely be hard to get use to her being gone all day since they have full day kindergarten here. I know Madison will miss her being home, but I am sure we will be able to find lots of things to do to keep busy!

Summer Fun

What a summer! I can't believe it is coming to an end already! Skyler starts school on wednesday. I can't believe she is going to be going to kindergarten! They just grow up way to fast! Well, I have been really bad at blogging this summer...so here is a look back at all the fun things we did.

SWIMMMING LESSONS

The girls were in swim lessons at the beginning of June and the water was still so cold then! I did a class with madison while my neighbor watched Ryland which was way fun to do with her, but way too cold! Next year we will definitely do them more toward the end of summer when the water feels like bath water. ( but then you get fried so I guess there is no way to win)

FUN IN SAN DIEGO!

Can't go to San Diego without eating with Grandpa at the Jack in the Box headquarters at Jack's Jack!

We got to go to San Diego for a week and play with Jakes family. The kids had so much fun playing with all their cousins! We went to the San Diego Zoo one day which is such a fun zoo to go to!

OREGON

Four days after we got back from San Diego me and the kids took off to Oregon to visit my family for 2 1/2 weeks.

The kids loved playing in Grandma's back yard. They didn't like coming back to 108 + heat and not being able to go outside and play.

FAMILY CAMPING TRIP

Last weekend we went camping for the first time as a family with our new tent that was big enough to fit a queen size blow up mattress two twin size mattresses and Ryland's pack and play. It worked out really nicely and we had so much fun. We can't wait to go camping again with Dave and Jamie in Sept.!

What a fun Girls weekend in Vegas! Jake's parents took all the women in the family to Vegas for the weekend while the husbands watched all the kids! (that's my kind of vacation!) We had such a fun time just hanging out, talking, shopping and relaxing all weekend.

We love you guys so much and appreciate everything you do for us!

Ryland can now walk across the room! It is so fun to see him go through all these fun stages. It makes me so sad though that he is already one and that he is growing up so fast!

Jake decided it would be fun to have a vegetable garden. I didn't even know you could have a vegetable garden in Arizona? Jake built this cool garden box by scratch and we planted cucumbers, watermelon, tomatoes and carrots.

I decided to dust off my sewing machine this year and make the girls Easter dresses. I was pretty rusty but they ended up turning out pretty cute.

We learned quickly that we shouldn't give Ryland an egg to hold. Since he thinks everthing is a ball... right after we took this picture sure enough...he threw it. Luckily it was a hard boiled egg:)

Thank you uncle Jack! Jake got tickets through work to go to the Suns game last night. Since Jack in the Box is a sponsor of the suns we got to sit in a suite where they had food for us and even tee-shirts and suns fingers. We all sported our suns tee-shirts and colors and had lots of fun! The kids had a great time!

There was even a special appearance from the the Gorilla the suns mascot.

Yeah...that's what I was thinking. We had a fun day today. If you can't tell what this is a picture of...it happens to be 3 prescriptions for an antibiotic. One for Skyler, Madison and Ryland. Almost two weeks ago Ryland came down with a cough...a couple of days later Madison catches it--(for those that know Madison she catches every cold and is sick every other week)...just when I think Madison and Ryland are starting to get better Skyler comes down with this cough and the last few days she has been getting fevers of 102.9 . So I take Skyler in to the doctor today to see what is going on. Of course Ryland and Madison are with me and there coughs have not completely gone away after almost two weeks. So we are waiting for the doctor to come in and Rlyand out of the blue throws up everywhere. So I was like...well I better have him seen to. So anyways long story short...they all have bronchitis...they are all on antibiotics....and all three on the breathing machine. Fun huh?

Skyler lost her first tooth!

A couple of weeks ago Skyler lost her first tooth. I can't say she was too excited about it... she actually was pretty scared. And then to make matters worse the tooth right next to it was really loose also. She didn't understand why her teeth had to fall out. The second tooth just fell out the other night...well I shouldn't say just fell out....it was really loose so I grabbed a hold of it and yanked it out! But she was all ok with it once the tooth fairy came and brought her money :)

ohhh our dear Madison. Starting to want to become very independent... which is good but sometimes difficult. She thinks she can do everything that her big sister can do! Here she is playing a game on the computer (something she sees her sister doing all the time).

Winter Wonderland at Grandma Nielsen's house....

It has been snowing almost all week here in Portland, Oregon. Me and the girls and Ryland flew in last Saturday (13th) and it has pretty much been snowing off and on since we arrived. School was canceled all week long for the kids here and church was canceled last week and will be canceled tomorrow also. So crazy! But definitely fun for us coming from Arizona where all we get is sun. Today (sat. 2oth) we have gotten 3-4 inches so far and they have forcasted 6-10. This is really unusual to get this much snow here...so kinda fun. Jake will be flying in tommorrow night to join us...just hope his flight wont be canceled and that we will be able to go pick him up!

Madison broke her arm the sunday before thanksgiving (23rd). Skyler and her were at the table doing a craft that sunday night, Madison was standing on the kitchen chair and fell (we have one of those high tables which has definitely been a huge mistake from the beginning... this isn't the first time one of them has fallen...just haven't hurt themselves like this). We ended up in the emergency room that night and took her in to an orthopedic surgeon the next day thinking we were just going to put a cast on her. The doctor informed us that she needed to have surgery because she bent the bone instead of broke it. Her bones are still so soft because she is so little...so the doctor wanted to bend the bone back to make sure it would heal straight. So, that same day we took Madison into the hospital where they put her to sleep and the doctor had her arm under an x-ray and bent the bone into place. She had a splint on for a week in case it swelled at all and then she got her pretty pink cast with sparkles!

Here is Madison waiting for surgery... she got a doggy which she had fun putting stickers all over it.

She got to go on a ride in a wagon when she got restless waiting...you know how hospitals and doctors offices are...it takes forever. She did really good though.

She got her pretty pink cast on this wednesday... yes with sparkles on it. As you can see she is still as happy as can be...and as active as usual. (thank you Lance and Aimme for the dress-up clothes and jeans...my girls love it!)

For work the leadership team put on a Road Show for the managers that was military themed so they all got dressed up for it.

Jake got called to be the High Priest group leader in our Ward. We were pretty shocked since the High Priest group is primarily made up of age 70+. When Jake got called, the bishop asked him when he was going to go buy a suit...so that's what we did :) He looks nice huh? He has been doing an awesome job this last month since he has been called. I know that he will be able to touch the lives of those he serves.

Ryland is now crawling and sitting up on his own at 6 months. So crazy! I have a feeling if he mastered that so quickly he will be an early walker to! He just had his 6 month check-up, he weighed 18lbs. 12oz and was 27 inches which is both in the 75%

First sucker! He loved it! We finally got a high chair...since he is eating baby food a lot more now. So much nicer than his car seat that I have been using:)

Mission Calls

My twin brothers Casey (left) and Cameron (right) just got their mission calls!! Casey is going to Lisbon, Portugal and Cameron is going to Antofagasta, Chile. they leave Jan. 28th. We are so excited for them and know that they have prepared themselves to serve the lord with all their hearts. We love you guys!

Ryland just turned 6 months on the 3rd. I can't get enough of him. He is so cute! I can not believe how time flies. How can it already be October?

Now the fun begins! He is starting to do better at eating baby food. Before he would just spit it at me...but now with most of it he does pretty good.

The other day he got in a sitting position by himself from being on his stomach. So crazy! Maybe I can't remember when thing like this usually happen but he wasn't even 6 month old when I took this picture...it just seem like he is doing stuff a lot sooner than the girls ever did.

Ryland is getting so strong!...it's so funny to watch him push up on his legs. Thunder thighs huh? Cute ones though!

Yep, Madison is asleep sitting up. She gets so tired in the afternoon because she gets up so early. Most days she doesn't take a nap but if I can get her to sit in one place long enough (like to watch a movie) she usually falls asleep.

The girls love to pretend and to dress up. We got this kitchen set at Goodwill for $7.99. Yep that's right...cheap huh? Me and Jake definitely like to bargain shop :) Why pay full price when you can get a perfectly good one for cheaper? We also like craigslist...We just got a nice dresser for Rylands room on it.

Sorry..I have been slackin' at keeping our blog going. Jake actually had to do the last couple so that we could get some updated pictures up for the fam...I will have to try to keep up with it! Whats been going on...well school is the main focus of every day now. Skyler is really enjoying her class and is learning a lot. Madison is keeping us busy...or maybe I should say tired. She has decided that she is going to wake up at 6:30 every morning. Those that know me well know that I am not a morning person...and then add in that I am still getting up with Ryland once or twice a night to feed him, skyler wakes up once or twice a week with leg pains, sometimes nightmares (lately it's been every night waking up for something) and then not getting to bed till 11:00 or later...not a pretty picture. Jake is in California right now. He went down to help translate in spanish to the employees who's restaurants are getting bought out by franchises and explain to them what changes will take place. What a blessing his Spanish has been! He has been able to use it a lot in his job! I am currently taking an online English class to continue my education...so that has been keeping me busy on top of everything else. And I just got called in to Young Women's to be the personal progress leader....so that has been a lot of fun to get to know the girls. Ryland had been growing like crazy and is rolling all over the place. He is already getting up on his hands and knees and rocking back and forth...he is only 5 months old! Early crawler?? I'm not sure I am ready for that yet! Then he'll be everywhere!

Movie night! Friday we sat down to watch Penelope with the girls. Cute movie, the girls really liked it...well Skyler did...madison is a little young for a movie like that.

For some time, I've been hearing that we are not posting enough pictures of the kids often enough. Does anybody remember what we did before there were blogs. Heaven forbid someday come to AZ in the summer time to visit. We've pretty much accepted the fact that we won't get a whole lot of visitors during our summer months. But here are some new pictures of our trio with Skyler, Madison and Ryland.

Ryland has really perfected his roll this week, he tends to have a problem when he bumps into walls and in his crib, but it's so much fun to watch him grow and learn new things. This just means that we have to watch him even that much closer. Notice the nice leaky diaper after a good nights rest.

Madison has made bedtime quite an event as of late. She doesn't like to fall asleep alone in her bed so at times it's Mom & Dad's bed, and sometimes Skyler's. Here's a cute pic of her cuddlin' up with Skyler.

I recently had my 29th Birthday on August 16th. Seeing as how I have one more year before I'm officially required to act like an adult, I haven't started feeling too old. However I have started feeling some minor aches and pains, but I assume that's from my rigorous exercise routine that I devote myself to. Not only to I share a Birthday with Madonna, but it also happens to be the same day Elvis died and Babe Ruth (I think?). So we watched documentaries on the life and death of Elves all day (not really). It was a fun day, it fell on a Saturday which made it very relaxing and enjoyable. It was a fun day just hanging out with the family, we hung out at the pool to cool off from the August heat. I suppose the next birthday is the one I need to be worried about. Any words of wisdom from those who have already walked down that path?

First Day of School

Today was Skylers first day of pre-k. She was so exited! We went the other day to an open house to meet her teacher and see her classroom. Since Skyler's bithday is in October she misses the deadline for kindergarten so they have a special program that allows those kids whose birthday are between sept. and Dec. to go to school for almost three hours everyday..the best part of it is that it is free! Beats paying to get her into a preschool! And ofcourse it gets her ready for a full day of kindergarten next year. And ofcourse gives mom a break.

This is Skyler's friend Olivia that is in her class. Someone to carpool with...yeah! Ohh yeah I was just informed that flip flops are not allowed...thats all we Arizonians wear! It's way to hot to put normal shoes on let alone socks!! Ohh well...guess I will have to go dig out some socks and shoes...if she has any.

Ryland had his 4 1/2 month doctors appointment this week. He weighed 16lbs 8 oz. which is 75 percentile. He is getting so big...it is so crazy how fast they grow...where did my newborn go? He is such a happy baby and is always smiling and laughing.
He learned a new trick this week....
ohhh...he's leaning...

We found this bumbo today at goodwill. He looks so cute in it!! I had been wanting to buy one but didn't want to spend $40 to get one so when I saw this at goodwill for $5.99 I definitely had to get it! Gotta love goodwill!!

Bitter Sweet

Bitter Sweet...It's always nice coming home from vacation to your own bed and own things...but definitely hard to leave behind those you love. Skyler is getting old enough to where she gets really sad to leave. She told me this time that she wants to live there and started bawling when she woke up from the car ride home from the airport and saw that we were home...she wanted to go back to Grandma. So hard to be away from everyone. We had such a great time for the two and a half weeks we were in Oregon. It was perfect weather the whole time (so nice to get out of the heat) the kids loved being able to go out and play in Grandma's backyard, going to the park, the zoo, boating and everything else you can't do here during the summer. The girls had so much fun playing with their cousins and definitely loved the attention and spoiling they got from Grandma. They actually prefer Grandma over me most of the time we are there....which is kind of a nice break for me:) My brother Chris got married which was so fun to be apart of. Because Meghan's family are not members and couldn't be apart of the marriage ceremony in the temple they had a ring ceremony before the reception. The girls did such a great job walking up the aisle... I was afraid Skyler might get scared but she didn't!
The reception turned out so nice. They had it at pumpkin ridge golf course. The night was filled with a delicious dinner, dancing, family and friends and of course running after kids.

Congratulations Chris and Meghan...we love you and we wish you the best!

4th of July fun...mostly

4th of July morning started out great. We went to our ward 4th of July breakfast which was packed fun with a parade and pancakes and then water fun (you can do that kinda stuff here in Arizona when it is 100 degrees at 8:00 in the morning!) The girls had fun as you can see from the pictures going down the slip and slide.

Of course Jake had to get into the action and decided he was going to take a jug of ice water and surprise a couple of guys in our ward by dumping the freezing water on them. I was sad that I didn't actually get a picture of him doing it...but you can see Jake in the back of the picture by the orange jug. Don't think Jake went home dry...they definitely got revenge. so you are probably wondering what in the world this picture is of...

here's what happened....we had gone to our stake center to watch the fire works that were going off down the road at the high school. We were getting packed up to leave afterwards and I hear Madison start crying. I run over to where she is sitting on the grass and see a bunch of ants crawling all over her. Sad huh? I got a few ants on me when I was trying to get them off her and it hurt!...I can't even image how it felt with as many ants as she had on her. She got bites mostly on her ankles but some on her back and stomach. So this is a picture of what one of her legs looked like the following day. Her leg was so swollen...when she first woke up the next day she wouldn't walk...she would crawl around cause it hurt so bad. It took a couple of days for the swelling to go away and now she just has a bunch of scabs all over.

To finish off our wonderful 4th of July weekend... on Sunday, Madison decided when she woke up from her nap that she was going to take off her poopy diaper and play in it. Needless to say she rubbed it all over the wall...her crib and her legs. We decided to spare you and not take any pictures...we will let you use your imagination! Happy 4th!!

lessons today for the first time...I will have to take some pics of it.

Madison was starting to get to big for her baby swim tube..so we got

her these floaties to try them out. She does pretty well in them.
Our baby boy is 3 months old now!
I can't get enough of him...he is just so cute. It is so fun to see him go through all the stages. He is starting to laugh...it is so cute! Can't they stay like this forever?

Ryland had his 2 months (he's actually 9 1/2 wks) check-up on monday. He weighed 13lbs 8 oz. which is in the 90 percentile. He's a big boy! Such a sweet baby. He's starting to smile a lot more and react to people talking and being around him. He has been such a blessing to our family!

I think he is going to be our first thumb sucker! I never thought I would have a baby that wouldn't take a pacifier. Both the girls loved their pacifier from day one (we just barely got rid of Madison's passy that she would have only when she slept.) Ryland from day one has always kinda sucked on his fists...he is starting to be able to control his movements more and sometimes can straighten out his thumb to get it in there.

To my family in Oregon who is still freezing....are you jealous?

Had to get some pics of Jake's new car on here. I know he has told the fam all about it and wanted them to see it. Such a nice car...I love to drive it! I love my expedition, but it is nice to drive this when I am out running errands by myself.

Mom cut my hair!

I usually take Skyler to a hair cut place to get her
hair cut but Saturday I decided to cut it myself!
Not too bad huh?

I should have taken a before picture of the back of her hair so you can see the huge difference, but for those who know Skyler's hair it is half straight/wavy/curly...now if I blow dry it and curl it I can get it to flip out and it looks really cute. And it is a lot shorter than before which looks really cute on her.

of course if Skyler is getting her hair curled...then Madison wants hers flipped out to!

my girls love to play dress up. They also love to put on princess movies and sing and dance to it. (you can kinda see what Skyler's hair looked like before the hair cut)

Fun at the ZOO!

We went to the zoo on Saturday. It was perfect weather..which is not normal for this time or year. We have a season pass which makes it nice just to be able to go for a few hours and not feel like you have to stay all day to get your money worth. The girls love running around and seeing all the animals. It is always fun being outside and doing something together as a family.

Ohh yeah..the picture of the rhino. We were so excited to see it up and moving around. Usually when we go it is hidden in the corner sleeping.

This is darling little Ryland sleeping is his car seat. This is where he sleeps a lot of the day...in his car seat up on the counter top away from his two year old sister who doesn't understand yet that she can't pick him up, can't poke his eyes, can't get on him, can't feed him food...the list goes on. Hey..he's content...I'm happy...sisters happy that I'm not getting after her all the time to leave him alone...it works :)

My girls love to go outside and to be able to
play with their friends. Too bad we live in
Arizona...and the days to go and play outside
are coming to an end...it is already mid to high
90's and it is just going to keep getting hotter!

Skyler can ride her bike with out training wheels! She was begging us all week to take them off and once I did she didn't even want my help she just took off. Being the paranoid mother that I am I'm chasing after her thinking she is going to crash and fall...but she didn't (well.. not til the next day when she fell and skinned up her elbow)

Ryland had his 1 month doctors appointment last week (he is actually 5 weeks old) He weighed 10lbs. 12 oz. He is in the 75% for his weight. He is definitely a Stubblefield baby! I can't believe it has already been 5 weeks...where does time go?

What a sweet blessing it was. It was so much fun having Jake's family there, my parents and sister (what a fun surprise that was!) and a lot of my dads side of the family who were all together to surprise my grandpa for his 80th b-day. It was such a special day and I am so grateful to have such a wonderful husband who is worthy and able to give blessings to our children.

Well, Here we are in all of our greatness. I saw Jamie start her blog and help us keep posted on her family and baby. I don't know how organized and consistent I can be at these postings but I will do my best. I will try to post every weekend from now on and hope to include pictures and stories from our family.

I suppose the real news in our family is the arrival of Ryland, he was born April 3, 2008 at 12:45 p.m. He weighed 7 pounds 8 ounces, 20 inches long. He and mom are doing well recovering more and more everyday. He is doing all the things that a two week old does; sleep, eat and ... well, you know. Let's just say we're going through plenty of diapers. We are adapting to being outnumbered now, as they say, before we could play man to man, now we are going to the zone defense. Skyler and Madison are loving life as big sisters and playing with their little brother.

For a quick update on where we're all at. Skyler turned 4 this past October and is loving all the new things she's learning. She loves letting us know all the things she has learned and knows. She loves being mom's little helper. Madison just turned two on April 10th and loves following Skyler around and trying to do everything her big sister can do. Ryland at just over two weeks old enjoys sleeping, sleeping, crying & sleeping some more. But he is oh so sweet and precious to us. Mom and Dad are just trying to keep up with these three. Shauna keeps extremely busy at home with the girls and baby, helping keep the house in order while also starting online courses at the local community college. I stay busy with my cushy Monday thru Friday job and try my best to bring our house to the ground with every project I embark on as an amateur handyman.

All in all, we are doing wonderful. We love spending time with each other and just hanging out. We'll keep you posted on all our new endeavors and excitement that goes on here.
